ST – 201: US Solar Hot Water Systems

Course focus is on the set-up, installation, and use of solar thermal hot water systems.  Students will learn hands-on the techniques used for proper installation of solar domestic hot water systems for both residential and commercial use.  Appropriate sales and marketing techniques will be discussed.

Also covered will be safety, regulations, and inspection.  Additionally students will understand the popular types of Solar Pool systems available, the benefits of one kind versus another, and how to install the systems safely and effectively.  Students will understand the general maintenance required to maintain the system.  Students will also have the knowledge required to speak to potential customers about the benefits of solar pool heating, as well as the expected return on investment/payback of a solar pool system.

Methods of Pool Heating, Heat Loss, Key Components of Solar Pool systems, mounting on the Roof, Sales & Marketing, Passive versus Active Systems, Safety, Hands-On Demonstration, Troubleshooting, Advantages, Code compliance, Evaluating and Troubleshooting, and Safety.

Note:

This course is the first in a three class program (ST – 201, PV-301 and PV-401) and is intended to be the most intensive, hands-on, solar training diploma program in the country.  This class meets many of the existing national standards for entry level knowledge of solar hot water systems.
