More than ever before, the people of Florida want to go solar. According to a recent poll, 74% of Florida voters support pro-solar changes the current state laws, specifically laws that currently limit access to solar power. The Florida Solar Ballot Initiative is a coordinated attempt to remove the barriers that are limiting Floridians from going solar.

Here’s a quick video that explains the petition: Post by The US Solar Institute.

The petition can be downloaded here: http://www.flsolarchoice.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/64491-1.pdf

US Solar Institute has put their full support behind this ballot initiative and is currently functioning as the volunteer and canvasser headquarters in Broward County. “We need 70,000 signatures in order to keep the ballot initiative moving forward, and we are doing everything we can to support the effort in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area.” Said Ray Johnson of US Solar Institute. “Florida wants to go solar! Collecting a few thousand signatures over the next few weeks is an important step in the right direction.”

Volunteers who want to help can visit Floridians for Solar Choice’s website and fill out a short form to get started: http://www.flsolarchoice.org/volunteer/ They can also stop by the US Solar Institute offices at 1024 NE 43rd Court, Oakland Park, FL. Copies of the ballot will be available for individuals to sign and share, and the office is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
