Solar PV installer and engineering contractor, USSolar, hopes to restore Florida’s image as the Sunshine State after BlueChip Energy’s massive scandal.

Fort Lauderdale, FL – July 16, 2013 – Today starting at 10am, Moecker Auctions will host the first of 2 liquidation sales for BlueChip Energy – the disgraced PV manufacturer that duped thousands of Florida residents into buying counterfeit solar panels.  Up for auction – the bankrupted company’s furniture, factory equipment, counterfeit, used and unsold solar panels.

Although more than 30 bidders have already registered for today’s auction, BlueChip Energy’s founders, Dmitri and Svetlana Nikitin, hope to attract many more victims as Moecker liquidates over $19 million in assets of dubious quality.

All proceeds from the auction will go to pay off the $16+ million owed to the many creditors, suppliers, vendors, and customers who have filed law suits against BlueChip Energy and its subsidiary, Advanced Solar Photonics.

The majority of charges stem from BlueChip Energy’s deliberate mislabeling practices.  The company egregiously overstated the performance of their solar panels, and marketed them as approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) – the independent scientific company that certifies consumer products based on safety.

All customers are now stuck with bogus panels not backed by any warranty.  Worse still, no installations using counterfeit panels qualify for Florida’s solar rebates and are illegal for installation anywhere in the US.  Customers now must pay out-of-pocket to have their BlueChip Energy solar panels removed and replaced.

One of the earliest victims – and the first customer to expose the scandal – is Ray Johnson, President of solar PV installer and distributor, USSolar Institute.

“I honestly hope the auction is successful so that everyone gets their money back,” comments Johnson.  “But I have serious doubts.  It’s hard to unload tainted goods once the truth is out and the truth is these solar panels are terrible by any standard”.

In an effort to rebuild Florida’s image as the Sunshine State, Johnson has begun offering discounts to any customers who want to replace their BlueChip Energy installations that used ASP solar panels with proper high quality solar panels and packaged solar energy systems.
