Solar Rebates Focus Light on Florida Solar Energy Training Schools

The economics of solar are becoming increasingly difficult for residents and businesses of the Sunshine State to ignore, thanks to a new rebate initiative being introduced by Florida Power & Light (FPL).  Launched as part of a 5-year pilot program approved by the state’s Public Service Commission, the rebates will help dramatically reduce the cost of new solar water heater and solar panel system installations across the region.  Beginning on June 21, FPL customers will be able to apply for their chunk of the $15.5 million solar pot, with rebates ranging from $1,000 per residential customer all the way up to $150,000 per business.  Combined with existing federal tax credits, this rebate program can reduce the cost of new solar installations by more than 50%.

There’s a catch however – all rebates will be granted to qualifying applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis.  When Progress Energy and Tampa Electric Co. launched similar rebates in the past, they ran out of money within the first three days.

Sunny Days Ahead for Graduates of Florida Solar Energy Training Schools

One of the stipulations of the solar rebates involves getting a quote from a licensed contractor per FPL’s standards.  For people seeking to enter the solar industry, it’s crucial that they acquire their training from a licensed and accredited Florida solar energy training school.  According to Florida Power & Light Spokesman, Mark Bubriski, “These [solar] projects can require a significant investment, and customers should make sure and do their homework to research various contractors and options.”  He continues, “They will need specific information about the installation from a [solar] contractor in order to complete the rebate application.”

This, of course, is welcomed news for graduates of US Solar Institute–Florida’s premier solar training school.  Comments USSI President, Ray Johnson, “FPL has laid out very specific guidelines regarding eligibility.  Not only are our graduates well positioned to gain employment with a solar company, but we also offer continuing education for professionals, and solar workshops for consumers.  We’re here to educate anyone who wants to learn more about solar and answer any FPL solar rebate program questions as well as offer affordable solar installation services.”
