Florida Solar One is currently looking for a Project Manager/Superintendent for their solar installation department. The right candidate will manage all functions of the job site as it relates to home/commercial construction. Manage construction of multiple systems from estimating through closing while maximizing profits and maintaining excellence.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for construction and presentation of the systems in a timely manner
  • Interface with the subcontractors, government agencies, and the customer
  • Establish and maintain daily contact with appropriate city officials and inspectors
  • Schedule all involved contractors on-site as well as off-site for each phase of development and construction.  Complete each installation site on schedule from planning through commissioning, ensuring that all contract obligations are satisfied
  • Confirm all approved plans to verify home system site is built per plan and specifications.  Ensure that the selected options and upgrades are implemented during construction and for homeowner walk-through
  • Maintain a safe work site by implementing good housekeeping regulations and safety requirements, enforcing safe work habits and observing OSHA and any state-level agencies’ regulations
  • Be aware of applicable building codes and OSHA requirements
  • Perform checklists and reports that aid in controlling aspects of the construction process under his or her responsibility
  • Achieve the highest quality work and homeowner satisfaction through effective management of resources and the construction process
  • Monitor job site cleanliness and hold the subcontractors responsible for daily clean-up
  • Conduct detailed inspections after each trade has completed its tasks and before any work is authorized for payment
  • Verify that city final is complete and passed by the city inspector
  • Walk each completed home before homeowner walk-through to make sure it is complete, clean and meets standards

Requirements:

  • US Citizenship is mandatory
  • The qualified candidate for this position will have at least 5 years of experience working specifically in the solar energy industry as a superintendent or crew leader.
  • OSHA 10 Hour Certified (minimum) 30 Hour is preferred
  • Must be willing to work outside the USA for up to one month
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with high-voltage electrical systems
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail & high performance standards
  • Good communication skills (both oral & written), and must be comfortable scheduling work directly with residents
  • Ability to work efficiently and to multi-task
  • Proven record of working independently and with minor supervision
  • An effective team player with a positive attitude
  • Ability to work weekends as necessary
  • Bi-lingual a plus
  • Basic computer skills. Experience in Excel, Word, Outlook and CAD (highly preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Climbing up and down ladders
  • Working from various heights
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to pull wire
  • Working on roofs for several hours a day
  • Continuous kneeling

Supervisory Responsibilities                           

May directly supervise other installers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Crew Foreman

Job Opening Overview

The Crew Foreman oversees daily functioning of the crew at the job site and is responsible for each install from start to finish.  This includes supervising each crew member on the team, monitoring the quality of the work, and even handling the customer service side of things. The foreman must plan, organize/coordinate each install, order materials, delegate responsibilities, and handle administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate will find him or herself immersed in an educational environment as they grow and become more and more responsible for ensuring the company’s strategies are always the top priority for all installation services. The Crew Foreman interacts directly with customers and is responsible for ensuring our products are installed safely, properly, and on time without exception.

Some travel may be expected. Florida Solar One has active installation and service work in South Florida, The Keys, Cayman Islands and other Caribbean nations. Employees are required to submit to a criminal history check, drug screening, and obtain any work related clearances from the state of Florida or Caribbean nation based upon the work locations requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for those reporting to him/her by clearly communicating the mission, goals and values of Florida Solar One and US Solar
  • Lead the installation of solar panel arrays and electrical system installation that interconnect to the grid power at our customer’s residential or commercial property.
  • Ensure work performed by all technicians is of good workmanship and compliant with 2011 through 2017 National Electrical Code as well as the 2015 Florida Building Code.
  • Review the performance of those reporting to him/her. Provide coaching, technical training, etc. to help his/her managers improve their performance
  • Interface with management to ensure compliance with performance ratios and completion of projects timely and profitably
  • Lead continuing education/certification training sessions for crew members and students.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Perform weekly/monthly safety & quality control inspections
  • Recruiting: Ability to recruit top talent for his/her install crew (a very high priority)
  • Troubleshoot technical issues for his/her crew. Provide technical assistance for other crews as necessary
  • Attentive to emails and phone calls from management and his/her office teammates.

Required Items:

  • Must be a US Citizen currently living in South Florida or ability to relocate
  • Must be competent and knowledgeable in operations policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week and on Saturdays.
  • Must be highly motivated with good communication skills and capable of leadership by example.
  • Ability to demonstrate required computer skills (i.e. MS Excel/Word/Outlook, web, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret one line and CAD drawings and electrical schematics. (CAD operator, sketch up or similar a big advantage)
  • Able to perform advanced electrical calculations.
  • Knowledge of 2011 through 2017 NEC and ability to navigate it.
  • Must be willing to work in high places. Our installations are often on rooftops so you will be on them.

Required Experience:

  • Experience with project management and construction experience required (3+ years preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED and two years of formal technical training.
  • Prior completion of NABCEP level solar specific training is expected and required.
  • NABCEP or UL Certified PV Installer a bonus.
  • Two years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical, HVAC, solar thermal and or solar PV systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • 30 Hour OSHA- Supervisor Safety course certification

Salary and Benefits

Pay is commensurate with experience and pay shall be hourly or salary depending on qualification, abilities and responsibilities. Florida Solar Jobs Crew Leader hourly pay ranges from from $15 to $30/hour. Salary from $35,000 to $60,000+. Florida is a Right to Work state with employees given a 90 probationary period to obtain tenure. Once achieved company benefits may include:

Solar Installation Technician

Technicians interact directly with customers and are responsible for ensuring our products are installed safely, properly and on time without exception.

Employees are required to submit to a criminal history check, drug screening, and obtain any work related clearances from the state of Florida or Caribbean nation based upon the work locations requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with a team installing solar PV & thermal systems on residential & commercial properties
  • Doing site surveys for new potential clients
  • Working in shop and warehouse organizing equipment, accepting deliveries, preparing for installs and staging for projects making sure everything is neat and organized
  • Working with a team maintaining the safety of themselves and others by adhering to all written and verbal instructions, promptly reporting and/or correcting all hazards or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to site leads and management on all safety issues
  • Pulling inventory for each installation job
  • Pre-assemble job components in the shop and warehouse
  • Layout and assembly of solar modules / array and mounting hardware
  • Mechanical/structural mounting of racking, modules and electrical equipment
  • Electrical wiring of solar array/system (AC and DC)
  • Document completion of completed installation
  • Clean up of job site
  • Additional duties required as needed

Required Skills:

  • Must be a US Citizen currently living in Sout Florida or the ability to re-locate

  • Ability to be comfortable being and working on roofs

Required Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years minimum Construction, Electrical and/or Roofing field experience with references
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme environments (example: hot sun, crawl spaces, etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops and able to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Excellent written and verbal (English) communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license
  • Thrive in a team environment
  • NABCEP Entry Level Training as a minimum (preferred training is from The US Solar Institute).
  • OSHA 10 hour Safety Certification
