US Solar Institute gets asked all the time, who can install solar in Florida? In the solar industry, there are two permits that need to be pulled from the city: the building permit and the electrical permit.

In the solar industry, a general contractor has the capacity to pull the building permit. In Broward County, the building permit is secondary to the electrical permit, which must be pulled by the electrical contractor (EC)

Just like a General Contractor (GC), and Roofing Contractor (CC) can pull the building permit and can do the racking/anchoring portion of a solar system.

Of the two mandatory permits required in the great state of Florida, a Residential Contractor (CR) can pull the building (structural) permit. This is mandatory because the solar system must be properly anchored to the house for when the big winds come.

In Florida, a solar contractor can pull the building permit and can do the DC electrical part until the inverter. The EC must do the inverter to the main panel connection. A solar contractor can also do the plumbing part of a thermal hot water and thermal pool heating system.

An electrical contractor is the ONLY contractor that can pull the electrical permit in the state of Florida. It is in the talks that they will be able to pull the building permit, but as of now, they can only pull the electrical.
